To start off, I’d like to say how excited I am to be here in the
teacher education program, a step closer to becoming a teacher, and learning new things such as creating a blog. But, Before I begin talking about
this semester I thought I would share a little bit of why I want to be a
teacher. When graduating high school, the most asked question is more
or less, what do you plan to do with yourself now? My answer was always
go to school to be a teacher, of which I often got responses like “wow”
“bless you” “it’s hard to teach the kids, and the parents are crazy” or
“there is not much money in that”. So, are some of the negative comments
true? Yes. But you do not become a teacher to dwell on the negatives.
To me, teaching is an open door. It is the chance to influence young
lives, encourage and affect growth in the right direction, and share
love with kids who might not get it else where. Children need positive
role models in their life to help shape what they become and that is
what I plan to be. Being around children, watching them take milestones,
and soaking up their creativity, that is what makes me want to teach.
Though it may not be a “high paying” job, it is definitely a rewarding
one, as any good teacher will tell you. As for this semester, I am calling it a semester of change. I am
learning to change the mindset I’ve always had in school, changing from
the way I’ve been taught to teaching an individualized learning, and having an
open mind to things changing throughout my teaching career. I have high expectations for where I will be at the end of the semester and hope to continue growing in semesters after to become the best educator I can be.
