The Three Little Pigs is a classic tale of a few pigs that decide to build houses, and all build them differently. After each pig has finished building their house, a hungry wolf comes along and wants each pig to let him in their house. None of the pigs end up falling for this trick, and therefore they refuse to let the wolf in. But the first two pigs do not have houses strong enough to withstand the blows of the big bad wolf. When the wolf has met his match with the third pig and cannot blow the house down, he tries to think of creative ways to catch the pig outside of his house. Read the book to find out if the pig or the wolf end up winning!
The illustrations for this book are bright and friendly. The colorful pictures make the book fun to read, and help bring this aged story come to life. My favorite picture of the book is when the wolf blew down the first house and the gusts of wind were portrayed through lots of white swirls on the page.

This book could be used in the classroom with older grades to incorporate the standard on comparing different versions of a story. The Three Little Pigs has so many versions that it would not be hard for the students to pick two and compare the differences and similarities between them. This would be a great book to outline how different authors or different cultures can have unique twists on a story. The teacher could have each student share with the class the differences or similarities they found within versions. Then for gifted students, the teacher could have them tell which version was their favorite and what made it better.
